Six hundred people expected to attend Thanksgiving meal in Pine Ridge, Thursday

PINE RIDGE, S.D. – One local woman in Pine Ridge has taken it upon herself to feed homeless people in her community on a weekly basis. On Thursday, November 21st, Ruby Schlueter will be spearheading a Thanksgiving meal, prepared to serve nearly 600 people, at the Billy Mills Hall.

Last year Ruby said that the event brought in over 500 people, but she is expecting an even bigger turn out the second time around.

For the last sixteen months, Ruby has spent hours each week providing casseroles and other dishes to whom she calls “family.”

“I don’t like the word homeless,” she said. “They are my family.”

The meal will be served at the hall starting at 11 a.m. and will be open to everyone.
