Sioux Falls sees the biggest year on record for drug busts

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — 2018 was the biggest year on record for drug busts in Sioux Falls.

Methamphetamine was the most commonly seized drug, with Sioux Falls police confiscating 56 total pounds of the drug. That’s 11 pounds more than in 2017.

Heroin seizures are also up, with police taking almost nine pounds of heroin off the streets. Less than a pound of heroin was seized in 2017.

Police say the numbers are higher due to a combination of record low drug prices and record high supply.

The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office will be releasing its own annual report on drug busts in the coming weeks.
