SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A Sioux Falls man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and kidnapping his girlfriend.

Sioux Falls police say 27-year-old Shawn Bentz locked his girlfriend in a closet following an argument on Wednesday. Then the following day after he had let her out, Bentz met her in a public parking lot where a second incident occurred.

Bentz allegedly locked her in his car at the parking lot and then drove off. During the drive, he slowed down to throw some of her personal items out of the vehicle, at which point she attempted to escape.

According to police, a bystander witnessed Bentz grab her by the neck as she was fleeing and take her back to the car, KDLT reports.

He was arrested on aggravated assault and kidnapping charges a short time later.
