Sink holes open in residential area in Blackhawk

BLACKHAWK, S.D.— Two sinkholes have opened up in a residential area in Blackhawk.

The sinkholes directly affected two different residences on East Daisy Drive and led to the evacuation of 12 homes.

All of the evacuated residents will have somewhere to stay, as crews will remain in the area through the night.

Engineers are on scene assessing the area.

At this time it is unknown what caused the sinkholes but engineers are on scene working to find out.

“We have engineers that are on scene and they’re looking at the extent of the damage is and what type of, what is the situation of the sinkholes themselves,” said Jerome Harvey, the Pennington County Fire Administrator.

Some of the departments on scene were Meade County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management, Black Hawk Fire Dept. and Pennington County Emergency Management.
