Single-vehicle accident blocks I-90 Exit 57 traffic

RAPID CITY, S.D. – An unconventional detour was required to avoid this accident off of Interstate 90.

I-90 traffic took an off-road route to maneuver around a single-vehicle accident on Exit 57 after 2 p.m. Sunday.

According to the Rapid City Police Department, a black BMW luxury vehicle was headed southbound on Exit 57 when the driver left the lane of travel after turning too far right. He then attempted to return to the lane but overcorrected to the left and steered straight into a concrete median. A woman was also in the vehicle.

The car came to rest in the middle of the road, blocking all conventional ways of travel. Bystanders diverted I-90 traffic through a makeshift path around the accident.

Roughly 20 minutes later, a community service officer and paramedics with the Rapid City Fire Department arrived on scene. The officer helped move traffic past the crash.

The two people involved did not report any injuries and refused medical transport to Regional Health Rapid City Hospital.

A tow crew later removed the car from the scene.
