Simeon Birnbaum wins the 1600 Meter Run at the Arcadia Invitational

ARCADIA, CA – The top track and field athletes from across the country were in California on April 8-9 to compete in the Arcadia Invitational.

Simeon Birnbaum from Rapid City competed in the event and won the 1600 meter run in a time of 4:07.88.

The junior from Rapid City Stevens High  School had to pass two other runners down the stretch in order to win the race.

School officials are waiting on the exact 1600 conversion.

But it appears that Birnbaum’s time is now the fastest mile for a high school runner in South Dakota breaking Jim Reinhart’s record from 1973 of 4:07.90.

Plus, Birnbaum’s time is currently the sixth fastest mile by a high school athlete in the country.

In addition, the junior won the State ‘AA’ cross country title last fall and was named the 2021 Gatorade South Dakota Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.
