Shadow Warriors Project makes its way to the Central States Fair

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Some special four-legged guests will be performing at the Central States Fair into the weekend for an important cause.

The Shadow Warriors Project was created by Mark Geist of Colorado.

The goal is to support private security contractors working overseas and taking care of their families in the event of their injury or death.

The project has teamed up with the Baden K-9, an organization with decades of service dog training, to bring the animals to veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress.

“They require us to be involved with them. It’s not just a lap dog,” said Geist. “And that’s really what makes the veteran engage with them. And a lot of the veterans are used to using them overseas or at least see them being used overseas, so it just builds that connection there.

The Shadow Warriors Project will be putting on performances at the fair for the next three nights.
