Several road crossings closed in Sturgis due to flooding

STURGIS, S.D. — Several road crossings across Bear Butte Creek and Deadman Gulch in Sturgis have been closed for public safety.

The closures include 15th Street crossing by Campbell Supply, Bear Butte Creek crossing in the city park, the 7th Street bridge and the crossings at Elk Road and Raccoon Road.

People are warned to pay attention to barricades and not move or try to drive around them. Additionally, no one should try to walk through flooded areas as roads may be washed out even if it’s not visible.

According to the Sturgis Public Works Department, crews will re-evaluate the roads once water recedes to determine if they’re safe to travel on.
