Several Rapid City schools briefly placed on lockdown due to law enforcement activity

RAPID CITY, S.D. — General Beadle Elementary School, Knollwood Elementary and North Middle School were placed on secure status Thursday morning after a warrant subject attempted to flee law enforcement in the vicinity.

According to Rapid City Police Department spokesman Brendyn Medina, around 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning, RCPD officers attempted a traffic stop on a warrant subject. The subject fled the vehicle, and nearby schools were placed on secure lockdown as a precautionary measure.

At no point was the fleeing subject believed to be headed for any of the schools.

Secure status was lifted around 10:25 a.m.
