PHOTOS: Emergency personnel respond to serious accident near Reptile Gardens

UPDATE (08-18-2021) @5:46 p.m. — First responders are currently dealing with a 500-Gallon propane tank that’s leaking near some downed powerlines where the SUV crashed.

According to Chief Gail Schmidt of the Rockerville Volunteer Fire Department, the accident involves an SUV and a Coca-Cola Truck on the northbound service road of Highway 16 in front of Happy Holiday RV Park. The service road is closed in front of the RV Park while emergency responders sort out the incident. The service road intersects with City Springs Road.

Schmidt also confirmed multiple injuries transported to the hospital by ambulance.

Agencies currently on scene are the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Rockerville Volunteer Fire Department, and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.

Highway 16 remains open but authorities ask the public to avoid the area if possible.
