Serenity Dennard post turns out to be false alarm

RAPID CITY, S.D. — This past week there was a rumor floating around the Internet stating that missing child Serenity Dennard was spotted in Las Vegas.

Those rumors were confirmed false by the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.

After hundreds shared that post, the sheriff’s office is encouraging the public to be responsible with what they share on social media.

“Social media can be a powerful tool but it can also take us down the wrong track sometimes, so we had to speak up and correct the record on that one,” said Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom.

It is best not to share these types of posts if it does not come from a credible source, such as law enforcement or a government organizations.

If you see someone spreading unconfirmed information, make them aware of the dangers of doing so.
