Senior Summer Tournaments return on July 16
The Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department is hosting this year’s tournaments after the event had to be canceled last year due to COVID-19. Lindsey Myers, Recreation Specialist with Rapid City Parks and Rec, says this event started many years ago as a way to promote health, fitness, and physical activity for men and women over the age of 50.
“They are training all year. They’re trying to compete to qualify for the state and the national and it’s a big deal for these seniors and we always try to encourage them to sign up and continue to go out,” said Myers. She adds that they’ve even had competitors sign up who are over the age of 100.
This event is happening at various locations around the city beginning on Friday, July 16 through Saturday, July 24. From basketball, swimming, bean bag toss and golf to pickleball, disc golf and track and field, there is something for everyone at the Senior Summer Tournaments. If you would like to register to compete in these tournaments, the deadline is coming up on Friday, July 9.
