Senior Companions of SD offering event to help protect against scams

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Senior Companions of SD will be holding a free event Thursday, June 9 at 3 p.m. at the Rapid City Public Library Community Room to discuss scams in South Dakota and offer tips on how to protect yourself.

The event will feature Director for the Office of the Attorney General, Division of Consumer Protection Jody Gillaspie where she will emphasize that the key to protecting South Dakotans is by educating the public to recognize scams and potential deceptive trade practices before they occur.

Senior Companions will sponsor the event and provide information about their program. They are a volunteer program that provides in-home assistance and respite care for the elderly and those with disabilities.

They serve in 16 counties including Brookings, Brown, Butte, Codington, Day, Fall River, Hughes, Kingsbury, Lawrence, Lincoln, McCook, Meade, Minor, Minnehaha, Pennington and Turner.
