Severe weather leads to semi rollover on US Highway 16

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A severe winter storm in the region has made travel dangerous throughout the Black Hills. High winds and blizzard conditions caused a semi to rollover at the intersection of U.S. Highway 16 and Catron Boulevard around 5 p.m. today.

Emergency personnel were responding to multiple reports of accidents and stranded motorists at the time.

No tow trucks are in operation and weather conditions did not allow for removal of the truck tonight. Eastbound lanes of Catron Boulevard are shut down until further notice as a result.

Travel advisories and road closures have been issued across the Black Hills and western South Dakota. Officials are warning drivers to stay off the roads.
