Sears Hometown owners in Spearfish step away from business

SPEARFISH, S.D. — The fate of the Sears Hometown Store in Spearfish, is up in the air as the owners say they’ll be stepping away from the business in July.

Owners Phil and Stephanie Rebsom took over the store in 2006 and say there are numbers of factors that went into their decision.

Sales are down and production delays due to the pandemic are causing customers to shop differently. The Rebsom’s lease and their contract with Sears expire in July.

Sears Corporate wants to keep the store open, but need someone to take over the ownership contract.

Phil Rebsom said “Our contract expires on July 3rd and we decided that we want to try a new adventure in life and we don’t know what the roads have in store for us yet but we are excited to turn the page again.”

The Rebsom’s add they have had great support from the community over the years, so the departure is bittersweet.
