SDHP Sgt. Zachary Bader receives Purple Heart Award

RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Highway Patrol Sgt. Zachary Bader was awarded with the Purple Heart Award on Tuesday.

Highway Patrol Col. Craig Price presented Bader, who was surrounded by his family with the award during a ceremony in Rapid City.

Bader was injured in October of 2015 after he stopped a vehicle on Interstate 90 and discovered a large quantity of marijuana. When he went to take the suspect into custody, he was assaulted.

Bader has since recovered from his injuries and continues to serve with the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
