SD State Capitol building to increase security

PIERRE, S.D. – Security at the South Dakota State Capitol is getting an upgrade.

A security screening room is being built near the doors of the north entrance.

In a Public Service Announcement, Public Safety Secretary Craig Price says the screening room will be built into existing office space.

Signs will direct visitors where to go when they arrive.

“It’s very important to remember that accessibility to the capitol has not changed. You can still come into the captiol, you can still walk the hallways admiring the beauty of the building,” said Price.

Price says the new screening room is expected to be operational by the time legislative session begins in January.
