SD Speaker of the House battling severe case of COVID-19

PIERRE, S.D. — The Speaker of the South Dakota House says he has spent the past two weeks with a severe case of COVID-19 and had to go to the emergency room.

Steve Haugaard of Sioux Falls is the second known state lawmaker to be diagnosed since the start of the pandemic. The other was State Representative Bob Glanzer of Huron, who died of the virus.

The legislature met in special session earlier this month to decide how to distribute coronavirus relief funds.

Haugaard says he’s not sure where he got infected because he’d been around different people in different settings in the days before he began showing symptoms.
