SD Mines hosts annual Culture Expo
RAPID CITY, S.D. – South Dakota Mines holds an annual Culture Expo at the Surbeck Center, put on by international students on campus for nearly 60 years.
The event was open to kids in kindergarten through 12th Grade, and focused on displays and crafts. International students also shared stories from their home countries and brought authentic clothing and items.
“I think it’s very important that kids, especially kids from middle school and high school at a very young age, get exposed to different cultures from around the world, because this whole world is one big community and everyone is different,” says Cultural Expo Committee President Yash Naik. “Everyone has different cultures, different languages, different foods.”
The event opens to the public on Saturday, April 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a $10 charge for sampling ethnic foods.
Traditional dance and music will serve as entertainment.
