SD man indicted on kidnapping and assault charges

PIERRE, S.D. — A St. Francis man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for kidnapping, a variety of assault charges and child abuse.

The indictment alleges that between October 6 and 8, 2019, 28-year-old Michael Farmer kidnapped and held a woman against her will. During this time, Farmer allegedly assaulted the woman by strangulation and suffocation, and assaulted her with a deadly weapon, causing bodily injury.

The indictment also alleges that Farmer abused, exposed, tortured, tormented and cruelly punished a child. No further information was released.

Farmer pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. A trial date has not been set.

The charges are merely accusations and Farmer is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
