SD House reaches enough votes to proceed with impeachment special session

PIERRE, S.D. — The South Dakota House of Representatives will hold be holding a special session Nov. 9 to vote for the impeachment of South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg.

House Speaker Spencer Gosch said that the House crossed the 47 vote threshold on Saturday to proceed with a special session to consider the impeachment of Ravnsborg.

“There are enough petitions in both chambers to call a special session on Nov 9,” said Gosch. “Senator Schoenbeck and I will still need to sign a proclamation before it will be official. From there I will ask the body to appoint a committee of nine to investigate the terms described in the special session petition called by Majority Leader Peterson.”

Speaker Gosch said that he will appoint the committee, and will be the ninth member in case of a tie.

This is a developing story. NewsCenter1 will provide more information when it becomes available.
