SD Highway Patrol reminds drivers about the importance of “Move Over” law

The “Move Over” law requires drivers to move to the furthest lane when they see emergency vehicles with lights on.

This goes for police cars, highway patrol, ambulances and even tow trucks. No matter the color of the lights, it’s always best to be safe and move.

“When we have our lights activated you have to move to the furthest lane available.”  said State Trooper Chris Regan “If it’s not available you have to go 20 miles below the posted speed limit.”

Moving over is a life or death decision. If emergency crews can get to a scene quickly they can better assist those in need.
