SD DOH reports 5 new COVID-19 cases in Pennington County

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health is reporting 5 new positive test cases of COVID-19 in Pennington County for Tuesday.

5 new reported cases of death from coronavirus-related complications are Minnehaha County residents. A total of 34 people have died in that county alone. Statewide, 39 have died.

A total of 3,663 cases have been confirmed in South Dakota, up 49 from Monday. 5 of Tuesday’s new cases are West River, all in Pennington County.

Monday evening, the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation went under a 72 hour lockdown in response to two confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Wounded Knee District.

Across the state, 1,315 cases are considered active. That number is down from 1,393 on Monday. An additional 122 people have recovered from the coronavirus, bringing the statewide total number of recovered to 2,309.

A total of 74 people are currently hospitalized in the state and a total of 271 people have ever been hospitalized due to COVID-19.
