SD DOH records 239 new positive COVID-19 cases, 1 in Pennington County

PIERRE, S.D. – 239 new positive cases have been reported in South Dakota, largely in Minnehaha County, with one new case in Pennington County.

According to the Department of Health website, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in South Dakota has reached 3,144, an increase of 239 from Thursday.

203 of the new cases are in Minnehaha County. Mass testing continues in Sioux Falls after over a thousand people contracted COVID-19 in connection to the Smithfield pork processing plant.

Pennington County added one new confirmed case, bringing the total of recorded cases in the county to 18. The total number of active cases in Pennington County dropped from six to two cases since Thursday.

The number of active cases statewide went up by 198 from Thursday, brining the statewide total to 1,044.

A total of 2,069 people have recovered from the coronavirus in South Dakota, a difference of 41 from Thursday.

Six more peoples were added to the list of currently hospitalized cases statewide, bringing that total to 76, with 247 cases having ever been hospitalized due to COVID-19.

No new deaths were reported, so the statewide total remains at 31.
