SD-DOH announces available grants for mosquito control programs

PIERRE, S.D. — On Monday, the South Dakota Department of Health announced that they are accepting applications from cities, counties and tribes to obtain state grant funding for mosquito control programs, and to help prevent the spread of the West Nile virus (WNV).Applications for the grant are due by June 1 with around $500,000 available for this program. Funding awards will also be announced and available on July 1.

The individual grants will range from $500 to $20,000 and they will be granted for the exclusive use of mosquito control programs. The amount that will be granted will be based on the applying jurisdiction and its number of human cases of WNV in 2021.

Since the first case of WNV in South Dakota in 2001, 2,671 cases have been identified which has resulted in 47 deaths.
