SD DOH: 80 new COVID-19 cases statewide, one death in Pennington County

PIERRE, S.D. – Friday’s numbers from the South Dakota Department of Health show a total of 8,744 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in South Dakota, up 80 from Thursday.

21 of Friday’s new cases are West River – seven in Pennington County, five in Custer County, two each in Dewey, Lyman and Meade Counties, and one each in Jackson, Jones and Oglala Lakota Counties.

One additional Pennington County resident has died from coronavirus-related complications. A total of 27 people have died in that county alone. Statewide, 130 have died.

Across the state, 873 cases are considered active. That number is up from 866 on Thursday. An additional 71 people have recovered from the coronavirus, bringing the statewide total number of recovered to 7,761.

A total of 31 people are currently hospitalized in the state and a total of 824 people have ever been hospitalized due to COVID-19.
