SD DOH: 389 new COVID-19 cases, five deaths statewide

PIERRE, S.D. — Friday’s numbers from the South Dakota Department of Health show 389 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state, bringing the total number of cases to 18,075.

Five South Dakota residents have died from coronavirus-related complications- two in Turner County and one each in Fall River, Hutchinson and Meade Counties. Statewide, 198 have died.

85 of Friday’s new cases are West River — 29 in Pennington County, 12 in Bennett County, nine in Tripp County, eight in Meade County, five in Gregory County, Four each in Dewey and Fall River Counties, three in Lawrence County, two each in Corson, Jackson and Todd Counties and one each in Butte, Mellette, Perkins, Stanley and Ziebach Counties.

Across the state, 2,809 cases are considered active. That number is up from 2,615 on Thursday. An additional 190 people have recovered from the coronavirus, bringing the statewide total number of recovered to 15,068.

A total of 138 people are currently hospitalized in the state and a total of 1,246 people have ever been hospitalized due to COVID-19.
