SD DOH: 35 new COVID-19 cases statewide, 11 in West River

PIERRE, S.D. – Monday’s numbers from the South Dakota Department of Health show a total of 6,716 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in South Dakota, up 35 from Sunday.

11 of Monday’s new cases are West River – six in Pennington County and one each in Oglala Lakota, Gregory, Fall River, Todd and Tripp Counties.

Three weeks after the state confirmed a cluster outbreak of COVID-19 at a Rapid City nursing home, the current number of cases at Avantara Arrowhead is listed at 47 residents and 20 staff members. These cases are confirmed as the state continues testing at nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Across the state, 807 cases are considered active. That number is down from 838 on Sunday. An additional 66 people have recovered from the coronavirus, bringing the statewide total number of recovered to 5,818.

A total of 70 people are currently hospitalized in the state and a total of 657 people have ever been hospitalized due to COVID-19.

No new deaths were reported, leaving the state total at 91.
