SD DOH: 11 new COVID-19 cases found in Pennington County

PIERRE, S.D. – According to Wednesday’s numbers from the South Dakota Department of Health, 11 new positive cases of COVID-19 have been found in Pennington County.

A total of 4,177 cases have been confirmed in South Dakota, up 92 from Tuesday. 25 of those new cases were found in Beadle County and 17 were found in Minnehaha County. 19 of Wednesday’s new cases are West River – 11 in Pennington County, 4 in Oglala Lakota County, 3 in Lyman County and 1 in Fall River County.

With cases of the coronavirus on the rise in Pennington County and the infection of an employee at a Rapid City health care facility, local leaders are looking forward to mass testing that will begin later this week. The test supplies are scheduled to arrive no later than Thursday and the testing itself will be conducted over a two-day period. Results will be processed over a two to four day period through LabCorp in Rapid City.

Across the state, 1,108 cases are considered active. That number is down from 1,125 on Tuesday. An additional 109 people have recovered from the coronavirus, bringing the statewide total number of recovered to 3,023.

A total of 81 people are currently hospitalized in the state and a total of 333 people have ever been hospitalized due to COVID-19.

The number of deaths from coronavirus-related complications in South Dakota remained at 46, with 40 of those deaths found in Minnehaha County.
