SD Attorney General urges investigation into meat industry

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — South Dakota’s Jason Ravnsborg is one of 11 Midwestern Attorneys General, urging the justice department to investigate the meat industry.

Their concerns lie with market concentration, and potential price fixing by meatpackers during the pandemic.

The state officials wrote U.S. Attorney General William Barr that the concentrated market structure of the beef industry, makes it susceptible to market manipulation, especially during times of food insecurity, such as the COVID-19 crisis.
