SD attorney general ticketed for speeding days before scheduled fatal crash trial

HUGHES COUNTY, S.D. – South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg was ticketed for speeding days before agreeing to a plea deal on charges in a fatal car crash last year.

According to the Associated Press, Ravnsborg was going 57 in a 35 mph zone on Sunday, Aug. 22. His fines total $177.50 and have not been paid, No hearings have been scheduled.

On Thursday he pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors – making an illegal lane change and using a phone while driving. Ravnsborg is ordered to pay a fine and court costs but will serve no jail time.

Ravnsborg struck and killed Joseph Boever, who was walking along a highway near Highmore, in September 2020.
