School of Mines hosts its first virtual career fair

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota School of Mines regularly hosts career fairs each semester.

This year there is no exception, but this semester it is virtual. .The fair still gives students the opportunity to network while still maintaining social distancing.

Over 100 employers from South Dakota and around the country made themselves available to speak with students individually.

“Employers who will sign up for it will go in and create a schedule where they’ll have representatives available to meet with students via one-on-one appointments and then a student will go in and reserve that session and meet with a recruiter,” says Matt Hanley, the director at the school’s career center.

The virtual fair went on for six hours and was hosted on the online platform “Handshake,”  which is for both students and alumni.
