Saturday Sports Roundp: College Football and State Cross Country

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota School of Mines football team defeated Simon Fraser University back in September.

However, the Hardrockers have yet to win a conference game this season.

But the Rockers changed that on Saturday as they rallied to beat New Mexico Highlands, 8-7.

After a scoreless first half, James Budgett scored on an 87 yard touchdown run to give the Cowboys a 7-0 lead.

The Hardrockers finally got on the scoreboard late in the first half with a safety to make it 7-2.

Then with 21 seconds left in the game, Ian Anderson hauled in a five yard touchdown reception from Toby Smith to give the Hardrockers an 8-7 lead. The two-point conversion was no good.

South Dakota Mines is now 1-6 in the conference and 2-6 overall.

The Hardrockers will host the Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. in their final home game of the regular season.
