Santa visits Youth and Family Services

Thanks to Ellsworth AFB and the 28th Operations Group

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Child Development Center at Youth and Family Service (YFS) received a visit from Santa on Tuesday. With the help of airmen from Ellsworth AFB, Mr. and Mrs. Claus gave out over 170 gifts.

All the toys were donated by the 28th Operations Group. The Operations Group set up angel trees throughout their facilities and once all the toy were in they were delivered by Santa himself.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus were greeted with welcome signs and big hugs from children at the center. Kids of all ages waited outside the YFS building to see his grand entry.

After the entry, he visited every classroom in the building and gave each child an individual gift.

Kids were ecstatic to see Santa and had many requests along with thank-yous.

Colonel Brian Farmer was part of the initiative and explains how it is part of their duty.

“Serving your country is a lot of things, but this is a big part of it. It’s not just serving your country, it’s serving your community,” said Farmer.

YFS states that this is the most anticipated event of the year. The kids get excited. They make signs and write letters.

For the center, it is a rewarding time. For some of their children, this is the only present they will receive for Christmas, therefore it is very special.

This is the 12th year the YFS and Ellsworth have partnered together for this and it will not be the last.
