Sabres sign Hunter Walla and Mason Martin

RAPID CITY, S.D. – With the North American Junior Hockey League season set to start in September, the Badlands Sabres continue to build their roster for the upcoming season.

The Sabres signed two more players this week.

Former Rushmore Thunder standouts Hunter Walla and Mason Martin will suit up for the Sabres this year.

Martin played in 41 games for the Sabres last season and finished with 13 goals and 19 assists.

Meanwhile, Walla was the second leading scorer for the Rushmore Thunder last season.

The forward tallied 14 goals and 24 assists in 17 games.

The Sabres have now signed 11 former players from the Rushmore Thunder.

When deciding to rejoin the Sabres, Martin said it was a no-brainer.

“Really it was how good the foundation is here,” said Mason Martin. “This is one of the bigger cities in our league too and we have one of the nicer rinks. So it kind of draws in more players to come here. Honestly I think this year, we’re going to have a really good team.”

“So over the summer, I’ve been talking to (Brendon) Hodge about playing and he accepted,” said Hunter Walla. “So I’m just really excited to play. I’ve been working out. Doing some off-ice training and just excited to get into training camp on the 29th.”

The Badlands Sabres open the 2022-23 season on Sept. 9 at home against the Helena Bighorns.
