Rushmore Thunder fall to Brookings in the state hockey championship game

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The South Dakota Boys State Hockey Tournament wrapped up Sunday in Sioux Falls.

The Rushmore Thunder entered the state championship game with a perfect 22-0 record.

Unfortunately, the Thunder lost to Brookings, 4 – 2.

Rushmore defeated Watertown in the opening round before knocking off the Oahe Capitals in the semifinals.

The Thunder then squared off against Brookings, a team they defeated twice during the regular season.

But the third time proved to be the charm for the Rangers.

After Brookings scored first, the thunder answered with a goal by Alexander Petrotto.

However, the Rangers scored a total of three goals in the second period to hold on for the win.

The Rushmore Thunder will compete in a high school national tournament starting on March 24 in Dallas, TX.
