Rushmore Thunder boys hockey team enjoying successful season

RAPID CITY, S.D. – We’ve hit the halfway point for most boys varsity hockey teams across the state and the Rushmore Thunder have been on a roll this season.

In fact, the Thunder are poised to make a deep run in the state tournament coming up in march.

The boys in yellow and black are 9-2 on the season and number two in the varsity standings, just behind Sioux Falls.

Overall, the Thunder have been a powerhouse outscoring their opponents 66-24.

Offensively, Hunter Walla has been on a tear, putting up seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points.

Kael Delzer and Mason Martin are next in line with 16 points a piece.

Rushmore has also had outstanding goaltending from Brady Devries who has a 1.86 goals against average.

Rushmore head coach Brendon Hodge says his team is playing well in every facet of the game.

“It’s been a whole team thing this year,” Rushmore boys coach Brendon Hodge said. “The forwards have been good. The defense have been good. Our goaltenders are stepping up for us. It’s just now one specific group that i can talk about. One of the best things i think i can say is we have a lot of depth on our team. If you look at our scoring and games, it’s not just one guy or one line doing it. It’s actually a group of guys doing it.”

The Rushmore Thunder will resume league play on February 6-7 at home against Watertown.
