Rushmore Mall closes early Monday afternoon out of caution

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rushmore Mall in Rapid City closed its doors early Monday afternoon out of caution, officials say.

The mall closed at 12:30 p.m. and will remain closed the rest of the day.

“We closed the mall to take every precaution for the safety and well-being of all shoppers and tenants,” said General Manager Sandy Brockhouse.

Brockhouse says there are no particular threats against the mall but they would “rather be overcautious.”

A normal opening is expected again Tuesday.

The move comes after damage to the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls and other stores in the area prompted Governor Kristi Noem to active the National Guard.
