Rush hold on to beat the Heartlanders

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Rush continued their long homestand on Friday evening as they opened a three-game series with the Iowa Heartlanders.

Since Iowa is an expansion team, it was the first ever meeting between these two squads.

After a scoreless first period, the Rush weathered a late push from Iowa and came away with a 3-2 victory.

Tristan Thompson led the Rush with a goal and an assist.

Alec Butcher and Zach Court also scored for Rapid City.

Although Rapid City is ranked third in the league in penalty kill percentage, the Rush gave up up two power play goals.

David Tendeck set a side 36 out of 38 shots for Rapid City who improves to 14-13-2-2 on the season.

The Rush will again host the Heartlanders on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
