Rollover crash near Box Elder

BOX ELDER, S.D. — A teen driver survives a rollover in a stolen car after being chased by highway patrol troopers Monday morning.

Authorities say a teen driver was lucky to walk away from a rollover crash on Monday at approximately 11 a.m. The crash occurred by exit 67 on Interstate 90 near Box Elder. The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office says a caller reported an erratic driver traveling at high speeds.

South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers pursued the vehicle, eventually using spikes strips to bring the chase to an end.

It turns out the vehicle was stolen and the driver, a 16-year old female, who the sheriff’s office says was a runaway. She is now facing several charges, including aggravated eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle and reckless driving. There is no word on her condition at this time.
