Rolling power outage may affect Lacreek Electric Association customers

MARTIN, S.D. — In a Facebook post Monday afternoon, Lacreek Electric Association warned customers that a rolling power outage may occur through their territory within the next few hours.

Lacreek serves Bennett, Jackson, Oglala Lakota, Todd, and Mellette Counties in South Dakota, as well as Cherry County in Nebraska.

Power usage has increased substantially with polar cold temperatures that have plagued the Midwest and reached into the Gulf states for days.

Lacreek, along with other power providers such as West River Electric and Black Hills Energy, have asked residents to conserve power whenever possible to prevent outages.
