Road construction on I90 between Sturgis and Tilford begins Monday

Road ReconstructionRAPID CITY, S.D. — A project to remove an existing median crossover and construct new median and ramp crossovers will begin Monday, April 26 between I90 Exit 37 and Exit 40.

The $1.36 million dollar project includes the removal of a median crossover near Tilford (Exit 40), construction of new median crossovers between Old Stone Road (Exit 34) and Pleasant Valley Road (Exit 37), and construction of new ramp crossovers at Exit 37.

Traffic will be limited to the driving lanes both east- and westbound, with a 65 mph. speed limit and 16-foot width restriction through the work zone.

These median and ramp crossovers are being constructed in preparation for a future reconstruction project at the Exit 37 interchange, which SD DOT anticipates will begin in spring 2022.

Motorists are advised to be alert for sudden slowing, stopped, and merging traffic, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane.

Overall completion of the project is scheduled for September 10, 2021.
