Road closure reminders for your Monday morning commute

Traffic restrictions will be in place on I90 at the Haines Avenue eastbound exit, and on 5th Street northbound between Minnesota and Texas Streets.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Starting Monday, Feb. 22, the I90 eastbound on-ramp at Haines Avenue will close until next year. More lanes will be added between exits 58 and 59.

The price tag? $17.5 million. The state says while working to widen the North Maple Avenue bridges – challenges, such as weather – need to be considered.

And as always, patience is key.

“There will actually be two bridges, one right next to the other,  and then widening that bridge on Maple. That type of work just takes, it takes a lot of time; so we have a very good contractor and they have their work scheduled out to complete it in time, but we just hope the weather cooperates with us,” said Jesse Nelson, S.D. Dept. of Transportation Project Engineer.

The project will be split into two phases, and is expected to be completed fully by June of 2023.

As a reminder, Black River Contracting will be repairing a drainage way adjacent to 5th Street, between Minnesota Street and Texas Street beginning on the same day. One northbound lane of 5th Street will be closed until March 22.
