Retired police officer donates lunch to local law enforcement

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A retired police officer is traveling the country — and providing lunch to law enforcement agencies along the way.

Matthew Nechodom retired from the Gainesville, Florida Police Department in 2018 after 27 years of service.

After retirement, Nechodom decided to take a trip to California, and now he’s decided to see the country and put some meaning behind the trip by providing meals to law enforcement.

He has set up a GoFundMe by asking donors to help provide lunch for law enforcement.

That call to action was answered, so Nechodom packed his bags and set out to deliver the meals to the men and women in blue.

“I just wanted the law enforcement agencies that I’m stop at to realize that complete strangers who donated money support them,” said Nechodom. “And when I was working with the police department we would have people drop off meals to us and it really did a lot for the morale.”

Nechodom is a little more than halfway through his trip from Florida to Seattle.

Along the way he’s collecting patches from each agency he visits, as a memento of his journey.
