Results from day one of Pro Tour Finale rodeo

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The 2020 Pro Rodeo regular season is set to wrap up on September 30.

That means cowboys and cowgirls are sprinting to the finish line in hopes of qualifying for The Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in December. The Pro Rodeo Tour Finale kicked off Tuesday night at the Kjerstad Event Center, which featured 24 contestants in each event.

In the Bareback Riding, Rapid City native Shane O’Connell hung on for the eight second whistle on his horse, “Life Jackets”. On the ride, O’Connell scored an 83 which put him outside the top six.

Then, Chad Rutherford of Hillsboro, Texas rode “Blessed Day” to a score of 85.5 points, putting him in third place overall.

Tanner Aus from Grantite Falls, Minnesota rode “Big Sister” and received 78. He then chose the option for a re-ride which landed him a score of 72.5.

The final highlight saw Tilden Hooper of Carthrage, Texas ride “Melrose” to a score of 84. The ride landed him a sixth place finish.

In Steer Wrestling, Rowdy Parrott of Louisiana won with a time of 3.5 seconds.

The rodeo in Rapid City runs from September 22 through September 26.
