Restoration changes coming to Omaha Street

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Over the next three years,  The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) is going to be reconstructing Omaha Street from Deadwood Avenue to 12th Street.

This year, the restoration will occur between 12th street and the entrance to the soccer fields west of Cross Street. This project is expected to begin in April 2020. The following year, the soccer field entrance and west of Deadwood Avenue will be redone.

The final year of reconstruction will aim to see the project to be finished by May 27, 2022. SDDOT awarded the contract to Heavy Constructors Inc. of Rapid City for $13.7 million.

Due to the anticipated increased in traffic on Main Street and Jackson Boulevard because of the project on Omaha Street, the City of Rapid City contacted Ainsworth Benning to complete surfacing work at the intersection of Main Street and Jackson Boulevard. This is expected to be completed by June 20, 2020. Motorists should expect closures during this time.

Motorists should also be prepared for delays, the slowing of the or complete stop of traffic and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane.
