Resolution approved to combine Public Works and Legal & Finance Committees
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City’s Legal and Finance Committee approved a resolution on Wednesday that will change the way the city conducts official business.
The resolution calls for the creation of a trial program combining the city’s Public Works and Legal and Finance Committees into one working session.
The idea is to streamline the way city staff and the public are informed on issues coming before the council.
No formal action would be taken at the sessions other than moving items forward to the council for final action.
The idea was first hatched last year to make city government more efficient.
“If we can save time, not that we are looking to rush anything, but if we can save time, time equates to money,” said Laura Armstrong, Ward Five. “And if we can save our tax payers some money and time, I think that is a good thing.”
The resolution passed committee by a vote of four to one.
It now moves to the full council on Monday night.
