Rep. Scyller Borglum to announce decision on upcoming U.S. Senate race

PIERRE, S.D. — A Rapid City state legislator says she will soon make an announcement regarding the upcoming 2020 U.S. Senate race.

Republican Rep. Scyller Borglum says that she’ll announce her future political plans on July 1 in several locations, including the Alex Johnson in the morning, the Dignity Statue in Chamberlain in the afternoon and the Hilton Garden Inn in Sioux Falls in the evening.

Borglum made headlines recently when she accused U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson of inappropriately deterring her from seeking a higher office during a dinner. She says Johnson questioned whether she planned to challenge U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds in 2020 and then advised her not to because Rounds was already doing opposition research against her and making moves to box her out from successfully running for any future office.

Johnson denied the allegations, and said that he did not threaten Borglum or her political future — nor tell her not to challenge Rounds.

Borglum announced earlier this year that she’s been traveling around the state for a listening tour on rural education. She’s also since hired a media spokesperson, the Argus Leader reports.

“After listening to numerous South Dakotans across the state, I have made a thoroughly-considered decision regarding the upcoming US Senate race,” said Borglum in a press release.

“My vision was made clear while meeting with my constituents of District 32 and other South Dakotans across the state. I will successfully bring forth this vision to create smaller government, rebuild immigration policy, and improve healthcare access and affordability. Unlike many politicians, I have achievable, common-sense conservative solutions for these real problems affecting all South Dakotans,” she continued.

Borglum has served as a South Dakota State House Representative for District 32 since 2018. She holds a PhD in Geology and Geological Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines.

Borglum will announce at the following locations and times on Monday, July 1, 2019:
