Remembering two heroes, 9th anniversary marking deaths of two RCPD officers

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Lost, but they will never be forgotten.

It’s been nearly a decade since Rapid City Police Officers Nick Armstrong and James Ryan McCandless were killed in a shootout after the two stopped a group of pedestrians on Anamosa Street on August 2, 2011.

On the ninth anniversary, the Rapid City Police Department honored Armstrong and McCandless with a Facebook post with the caption #ForeverInOurHearts.

A memorial stands in honor of the two officers in Founders Park in Rapid City.
