Relief fund set up for Rapid Valley firefighter whose home was destroyed

RAPID VALLEY, S.D. — Herculano “Herky” Solano, a 30 year member of the Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department, member of the Rapid Valley Fire Protection District, and retired City of Rapid City employee, lost his home earlier this month after a fire.

On January 17, fire crews responded to a structure fire on the 1300 block of Ennen Drive and were able to extinguish it. The next morning, the fire reignited – presumably due to high wind conditions and unburned insulation that smoldered overnight – causing severe additional fire and smoke damage before once again being extinguished.

A relief fund has been set up in the Solano name at Black Hills Federal Credit Union to help assist Mr. Solano and his family after the loss of their home.

Anyone interested in donating can do so in their name at BHFCU. Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department, located at 3760 Reservoir Rd, is also accepting monetary donations on the Solano’s behalf.
